Mebis E. Pigeon loft

Eventjes voorstellen ik ben Eric Mebis woonachtig te “ Wellen “41 jaar oud. Gehuwd en ik heb 2 flinke dochters Jolien en Sophie. Wellen is gelegen in midden Limburg, welbepaald in de “ Fruitstreek “, midden in de driehoek Hasselt – Sint Truiden – Tongeren.

De duivensport microbe heeft me gebeten omstreeks mijn 8 jarige leeftijd, toen ik samen met mijn vader Jules dagelijks de duivenhokken verkende. In die tijd speelde we ten huize Mebis onder de naam Mebis J. & zonen, samen met broer Luc was elk weekeind hoogtij in de Duivensport. Vader hield zich hoofdzakelijk met de snelheid en de halve fond bezig en voornamelijk met de weduwnaars. De jonge duiven nam ik voor mijn rekening. In de jaren 1975-1980 werd er dan ook sterk gespeeld ( Sint–Lambrechts–Herk) met hoofdzakelijk duiven van het oude stamras van mijn vader.

In 1997 ben ik dan voor eigen rekening beginnen spelen in Wellen waar ik dan ook gebouwd heb. Ik kende dan ook geen valse start, ondanks de opmerkingen die ik van oude duivenmelkers die me vertelde dat de ligging (volledig oostelijk) niet veel potten zou breken, want zo luide het op de zonneveldweg zijn er al vele gestopt. Maar duivensport is iets mysterieus, en ik startte dan toch met een ronde jonge duiven. Jaarlijks speelde ik 5 a 9 tal 1ste prijzen, met toch redelijk goede uitslagen. In de jaren 1999 – 2000 heb ik andere duiven bijgehaald met onder andere Voets Maurice , Vervoort Flor, Verstappen Edwin & Yskout Theo duiven via mijn broer Luc en de laatste jaren is er ook een redelijk aantal duiven van Nouwen M. bijgekomen die hoofdzakelijk het ras van Gijs Peeters bezit. In 2004 werden er ook duiven aangekocht voor de kweek van het ras Vanrompaey Carlo via Charlier Benny dit om de ploeg voor het werk boven de 300 km. te versterken.

Vanaf 2001 is het dan ook elk stevig bergop gegaan, en vooral met de jonge duiven opvallende ketting uitslagen. Wekelijks 3 a 9 duiven in de 10 eerste is dan ook geen aardigheid meer (zie uitslagen 2002 – tem 2006). In 2003 behaald 23 x 1ste prijzen en 23 x 2de , 10 x 3de, 24 x 3de , 11 x 5de ,waarbij 148 duiven in de 10ste en 319 prijzen per 10tal in totaal werden er 736 prijzen gespeeld per 3 tal. , 1ste Kampioen jaarlingen, 2de & 3de Asduif jaarlingen, 1ste algemene Asduif over het ganse jaar, Algemeen Kampioen meeste prijzen. In 2004 behaald 19 x 1ste prijzen en 22 x 2de , 17 x 3de, 15 x 3de , 12 x 5de ,waarbij 139 duiven in de 10ste en 278 prijzen per 10tal in totaal werden er 608 prijzen gespeeld per 3 tal.,1ste algemene Asduif snelheid over het ganse jaar, 2de algemeen kampioen meeste prijzen, 2de asduif jonge duiven.

Hoofdzakelijk speel in de snelheid en in mindere maten de halve fond. Snelheid in Limburg wil zeggen dat de duiven van 80 km. tot 280 km gaan en daarna kan er in een teruggetrokken reeks opnieuw gestart worden, de halve fond duiven gaan dan natuurlijk door in hun reeks.

Met de jaarlingen en de oude duiven speel ik het droge weduwschap systeem d.w.z. dat er in het voorjaar een nest jonge wordt groot gebracht om vervolgens een 3 tal weken terug los te zitten om dan nog eens op een broed te komen van 3 tot 5 dagen. Daarna zijn ze klaar om het seizoen te starten, alle weduwnaars een 24 tal vliegen tot zowat half augustus waarna de beste nog eens een 3 tal keren op het nestspel gespeeld worden.

Met de jonge gaat het er anders aan toe, deze geslachten worden omstreeks mei gescheiden, waarna ze dan elke dag ook afzonderlijk trainen. Bij de start van de 1ste reeks jonge duiven wordt er dan de duivinnetjes hoofdzakelijk gemotiveerd met oude duivers, de jonge duivers daar in tegen vliegen op hun nestbak of zitschapje. Daar ik vind dat onervaren duivers al te gemakkelijk verloren gaan als ze te driftig zijn, de duivinnetjes zijn daar niet zo gevoelig voor. Wat niet wil zeggen dat de duivinnen slechter presteren, in tegendeel de duivinnen vliegen over het hele jaar als jonge duif het beste (mijn ondervinding). In de 2de reeks wordt er wel gestart met de schuifdeur en worden de duivertjes gemotiveerd, zij hebben dan een 4 tal vluchten voor prijskamp afgewerkt. Dit systeem van motiveren blijft doorgaan tot het einde van het seizoen, tot heden heb ik ondervonden dat de jonge duiven vrij lang met dit systeem in het spel te houden zijn, daarbij komt dat ze beter trainen dan duiven op nest.

Het voedersysteem met de oude duiven is vrij eenvoudig, allemaal gelijktijdig aan 1 voederbak. De 2 eerste dagen zuivering en dieet de 3de dag ½ zuivering ½ sport, de 4de sport & 5de dag sport met extra maïs. De dag van de inkorving wordt meestal niet gevoederd daar ze dag voordien zoveel krijgen als ze willen.

Het voedersysteem met de jonge duiven is gelijkaardig, allemaal aan 1 voederbak. De 2 eerste dagen zuivering en dieet de 3de en 4de dag ½ zuivering ½ sport, de 5de dag sport tot de eerste duiven naar de drinkpot gaan dan wordt gestopt met voederen.

Medisch gezien is het zo dat ik steeds alert ben op het hok voor eventuele ziektes, de kunst bestaat erin ziektes te herkennen in een vroeg stadium, daar ingrijpen dan nog relatief eenvoudig is. Tegen Trichomonaise wordt 1 x per maand gekuurd met Ronidazol 10%. Tegen coxidiose en wormen wordt niets gedaan, daar ik op alle hokken over houten roosters beschik. Voor de kop wordt bij voor het starten van elke reeks een 10 tal dagen doxicycline 30% gekuurd en daar wordt verder in het seizoen voor de rest niets meer aangedaan. Het verplichte inenten is er dan ook jaarlijks bij en er gaan jaarlik liters melkwei & appelazijn in de drinkpot vooral bij de jonge duiven. Vitaminen staan elke woensdag op het programma en bij de thuiskomst elektrolyten.

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Eric Mebis and I'm living at "Wellen". 38 years old. Married and I have 2 growing up daughters who listen to the names of Jolien and Sophie. Wellen is a place that's situated in the middle of Limburg, in the "Fruitstreek". In the centre of the triangle Hasselt - Sint Truiden - Tongeren.

When I had the age of 8 I was infected by the pigeonmicrobe. Daily I inspected the pigeonloft with my father Jules. At that time we played under the name of Mebis J and sons. Together with my brother Luc we had every weekend success in the sport.

Mainly our father was busy with the sprint and middle distance. Only with cocks on widowhood. The youngsters I took for my account. In the years 1975 till 1980 we played strong (Sint - Lambrechts - Herk) with mainly pigeons of the old stockraze of my father.

In 1997 I started for myself in Wellen where I built my own loft. I know now false start, unless the marks I got from old pigeonfinaciers about the east lying. The told me that a lot of persons where stopped with playing when they lived at the "Zonneveldweg". But the pigeonsport is a mystery. I started with a round of youngsters. Every year I played 5 to 9 first prices with resemble good results.

In the years 1999 and 2000 I have brought pigeons from Maurice Voets, Flor Vervoort, Edwin Verstappen and trough my brother Luc, Theo Yskout into my loft. The last few years pigeons from M. Nouwen are introduced into my loft. These pigeons are mainly the sort of Gijs Peeters. In 2004 I bought pigeons from Vanrompaey Carlo through a pigeonfriend Charlier Benny and this for the work above 300km. Since 2001 it's going mountain up. Mainly with the youngsters I make chainresults. Weekly 3 to 9 pigeons in the first 10. Mainly I play sprint and less middle distance. Sprint in Limburg means that the pigeons fly from 80 km till 280 km en after that you can play it in a backfire way again. The middle distance is flown one way and backfires

With the yearlings and old pigeons I play "dry" widowhood. With "dry" widowhood I mean that they will bring up a bread after that they are for 3 weeks single, before they have an other bread till 3/5 days. After that they are ready to start the season. All cocks on widowhood (24) fly till half of august. After that they are played 3 times on a bread.

With the youngsters it's going different. The cocks and hens are being separated in may. Every day they train separately. With the start of the first part of flights the hens will be motivated by older cocks and the young cocks are played on a box or seat. Because in my opinion is that young cocks are lost to easily when they are too motivated. Hens are not sincere by that. That doesn't means that hens will not fly that good. In contrary. Hens fly during the season as youngsters better than the cocks (my opinion)

In the second part of flights I play the system "on the door" to motivated the cocks. They have than flown 4 flights for the prices. This system of motivation keeps going on till the end of the season. Until now I noticed that the youngsters with this type of playing system easier to keep motivated for the flights than when you play them on nest. They train better than pigeons on nest.

The feeding system of the old pigeons is simple. They get there food on the same time on the ground. De first 2 days 2 different sorts of diet. The 3rd day 1/2 diet and 1/2 sport, the 4th day sport and the 5th day sport with extra corn. On the day of basketing usually the pigeons don't be feed because they will get enough the day before.

The feeding system of the youngsters is the same as the old birds, on the ground. The first 2 days 2 sorts of diet, the 3rd and 4th day 1/2 diet and 1/2 sport, the 5th day only sport until the first pigeons have a drink.

Medically I'm alert for eventual diseases. The art is to recognise diseases in a early stadium. So intervene is simple. Against trichomoniasis will be treated every month with Ronidazol 10%. Against coxidiose and worms I will do nothing because I have on all lofts wooden grills. Before starting of every series of flights will be for the head treated 10 days with doxicycline 30%. During the rest of the season there will be no more treatment for the head. Every year there will be vaccinated against paramyxo. Yearly I use litres of "melkwei" and applevinegar in the water of the pigeons. Every wednesday there are vitamins on the program and by arrival at home elektrolyten.
